This here is Boognish.
Feel free to bow, cower, or even run. You can't hide from the Boognish.
Boognish is the demon-god, who has, it has been reported, thrice appeared to the prophets of The Cult of Boognish. Boognish, legend has it, originated from somewhere outside the orbital buffer. It sounds so technical, that it is almost certainly true. One of the prophets to whom he has appeared, Dean Ween, is the subject of this mighty tribute page.
Dean Ween, born with the no-less-mighty name Michael 'Mickey' Melchiondo, Jr., is the super-famous guitarist in the legendary band Ween. When he met the other soon-to-be prophet of The Cult of Boognish, Aaron Freeman a.k.a. Gene Ween, they formed and adopted the illustrious and never-before-seen surname 'Ween'.
Dean also shreds in another group, called 'The Moistboyz'. The name makes me uncomfortable just thinking about it, so I can only imagine its origins. I'll leave that discovery as an exercise for the reader.

Having spent a lot of time in Beach Haven NJ as a youth, Mickey set his sights to the sea, and became a fishing boat captain, producing a 12 episode web series called 'Brownie Troop Fishing Show'. He also gives tours, bookable through his website, http://www.mickeysfishing.com/

The Deaner Album
This is the first release of The Dean Ween Group, for which a 2017 tour is planned.
To call the eclectic pop-rock band Ween unknown is a little bit unfair. They released twelve studio albums over almost three decades in the industry. They have a devoted cult following, and sold out arenas until they disbanded in 2012, even though that was almost a decade after their peak in popularity. On the other hand, most people haven’t heard of them. They are stuck in the middle of being known and obscurity. The band was founded in 1984 as a garage band in the suburbia of Pennsylvania. For the first decade of their act they were just two guitarists and a backing track. Even from the beginning however, Dean and Gene Ween (their stage names) were experimenting with different styles of music. By the time their heyday came in the 90s they were constantly mixing and exploring music genres. They were just as willing to explore guitar driven funk music as they were standard pop. Consequently some of their albums run through four of five genres. Ween also became known for doing tributes to musicians who had died. Their songs So Long Jerry, and A Tear For Eddie are examples of this. The first is written for Jerry Garcia and is trying to emulate the Grateful Dead, and the second is for Eddie Hazel the guitarist of Parliament Funkadelic. Their eclectic nature made it hard for them to get mainstream radio play, and none of their singles ever charted higher than 116 on the charts. After their prolific 1990s which saw them release almost an album a year, they changed their focus to touring. They released a slew of live albums in the first decade of the 2000s and toured almost constantly. In 2012 the broke up after Gene Ween left the band, citing a need to remain sober. They are remembered, by those that know, as one of the best bands of the 1990s and one of the bands with the most varied discography of all time. Though they were never chart toppers, they were always one of the most interesting and creative bands going during their run.
Ween’s career was very long, and in the beginning it wasn’t unusual for their albums to have twenty or more songs on it. In every album they also explored different genres in a way that is unique to them. There are many Ween songs that are so different from each other you wouldn’t even suspect they were the same band if you didn’t know better. Taking this into account I will only be discussing the bands first four albums that were released on a major label. Besides having an extremely large discography most of the best, and most famous songs by the band were in this four album run. The other parts of their discography are worth listening to though, and I recommend that you look into it even if I won’t discuss it here. The bands first major studio release was Pure Guava which was put out on Elektra Records in 1992. It features the band’s first single Push Th’ Little Daisies, which is a standard early 90s pop song. It still introduced Gene and Dean Ween’s vocal style to a much wider audience. It didn’t chart well though, even though it is a fine song if not anything special. Also on the album is Reggaejunkiejew which is the Ween’s attempt at electronic music. It’s interesting to listen to, though it resembles little that the band would do afterward. In all the first album probably isn’t the best introduction to the band, and may have contributed to their magnum opus Chocolate and Cheese receiving little acclaim in 1994. That album is a masterwork, and there isn’t a bad song on it. It opens on the raucous Take Me Away which is a great piece of pop-rock fun that exemplifies what the band is all about. Following that is the darkly humorous Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down) which introduces listeners to the band’s dark humor. The album then moves onto the best known Ween song, and maybe the best song in their discography. The Freedom of ’76 is another fluffy pop song that received the bands only real radio play. Its easy listening at its best, and is a great way to round off the start of the album.
A Tear For Eddie is also on this record, and the band shows off their instrumental skills while emulating Maggotbrain by Funkadelic. Mister Won’t You Please Help My Pony, and The HIV Song also contribute the the albums dark sense of humor. While Roses Are Free, Drifter In The Dark, and What Deaner Was Talking About fill up the pop quotient, and I Can’t Put My Finger On It, and Voodoo Lady are good rock songs. Also included are a Mexican themed ballad Buenos Tardes Amigo, and the experimental Candi. In all the album is a very good representation of the band, and is almost certainly their best work. After this Ween moved onto doing themed albums. In 12 Golden Country Greats they made a tongue in cheek country album. This album heavily satirized the genre, but still made the songs stand up to Ween standards. In fact Piss Up A Rope was actually their best selling single of their entire run as a band. Also great are I Don’t Want To Leave You On The Farm, and Help Me Scrape The Mucus Off My Brain. While Mister Richard Smoker makes fun of the homophobia that both directed at the band, and that was prevalent in the country music genre. In all even people that aren’t fans of country music will find something to enjoy in this album. The next themed album was The Mollusk were every song is related to the ocean somehow. This while not being as successful as their previous album still contains many good songs. The title song is a good intro into the album, and it is a nautical themed pop song.
There are also several sea shanties on the album like The Blarney Stone, and Pink Eye (On My Leg) as well as more pop music like Buckingham Green, and Ocean Man. The later of which was actually featured in The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. In all the album is very listenable.

Ween deserves more recognition for what they created during their time as a band. Their eclectic discography has something in it for almost everyone, because their music spans so many genres. They are definitely deserving of more recognition, and it’s a shame they were not more popular during their time as a band.
